Kicking off Award Season With the Golden Globes 2019

Kicking off Award Season With the Golden Globes 2019

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, award season! Kicking it off with the Golden Globes tonight, Sunday, January 19, 2019, at 7 p.m on NBC. E! Live from the Red Carpet started at 5 central time this evening which I thought was pretty early, but I guess not too early for celebrities, because they were there ready to get the party started.

The hosts of this evening’s Golden Globes are Killing Eve star Sandra Oh and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg. It’s a night filled with awards in movies and television, fashion, and celebrities. Some of them are Penelope Cruz who is nominated for best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a series, limited series, or motion picture made for television in the Assassination of Gianni Versace. Regina King is nominated for two Golden Globes one of which is an actress in a miniseries or motion picture for TV for Seven Seconds. Bradley Cooper for best director – motion picture in A Star Is Born. Jason Bateman for best performance by an actor in a television series – drama for Ozark, and many more celebrities were nominated tonight.

I do have to say, I just saw Lady Gaga, who is nominated for multiple awards for A Star Is Born, speak with Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet. There is something about her that makes me so mesmerized and emotional that I don’t know if it’s her presence, the way or what she speaks it’s so effortless. She tells a story with her honesty and with everything she says I literally stopped everything I was doing to just truly listen to her.

Speaking of Gaga there are many musicians that are actually nominated tonight. Kendrick Lamar and SZA for “All the Stars” in the amazing Black Panther movie, which in fact is the third grossing movie ever in the U.S. Dolly Parton’s “Girl in the Movies” in the Netflix’s Dumplin. Which I recently watched and fell in love with because of the overall message of really a love letter to women. Annie Lennox’s, “Requiem for a Private War” in the movie A Private War. Jónsi and Troye Sivan’s, “Revelation” in the movie Boy Erased. And finally, of course, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s “Shallow,” in the movie A Star Is Born. It’s almost an advantage having a musician play a leading role in a movie so they can do basically the whole soundtrack.

It has been a great night for fashion on the red carpet ranging from Givenchy to Vera Wang dresses and capes and jewels galore. Glenn Close nominated for The Wife wore Armani Privé and Cartier jewels. Taraji P. Henson a nominee, wears a dark green velvet custom Vera Wang Collection. Melissa McCarthy wore a purple dress with a unique aspect of silver stars on her left shoulder, Reem Acra, and Chopard jewelry who is a nominee for her performance in Can You Ever Forgive Me? Judy Greer changed up the game a little wearing a suit by Alberta Ferretti. There were an array of colors stepping on the carpet including Amy Adams in a dark ocean blue, Catherine Zeta-Jones in emerald green, and Rachel Brosnahan in a bright yellow.

It’s an exciting time for movies and television tonight. I’m excited to see the winners, sit back and watch brilliant actors and actresses receive the recognition they deserve.
