Come Fly With Me
Come fly with me, we’ll fly, we’ll fly away. Nothing like a little Frank Sinatra hymn to get your attention. You can probably tell by the photos what, but ever since I stepped into a four-seater piper aviation aircraft today this song has been stuck in my head.
Yesterday one of my very good friends texted me that she was coming to town this weekend and wanted to catch up. Honestly, nothing came to my mind of what we would do, because there aren’t a whole lot of things in Lincoln, Nebraska that is fun and thrilling to do. So when I told her that, she came up with the idea of going flying around Lincoln for a couple of hours out of Silverhawk Aviation. And who wouldn’t be down to do that? And the fact that it was free, count me in!
Now, I’ve been in a helicopter and of course commercial airplanes, but this was nothing like that. It was so peaceful and what surprised me the most IT HAD RADIO STATIONS. Yeah, we were jamming to Halsey in the air and listening to D-Wayne from 106.3 KFRX. Listening to the headphones you have to wear to talk to each other, people were saying things all the time but one thing that caught my attention was “we have jumpers.” Which meant people were skydiving today, one major thing on my bucket list I’d like to do. It’s almost when you’re up in the sky you are speaking a whole different language; you really have to know what’s going on the whole time. Luckily the guy we were with, Austin, has been flying since he was 14 years old which made me feel safe.
When training you have to go through things that could possibly happen when flying a plane which means life-threatening situations. But, once you’ve mastered that it becomes a way to have fun in the sky. We did some crazy things as 90 degree turns but my favorite was reaching zero gravity which made everything in the plane basically float as if we were in space. It felt like we were playing with life itself, but thankfully these things aren’t bad for the airplane and it’s good to know how to get out of a bad situation anyways.
Today ended up being one of the best times I’ve had over this Christmas break. I’ve never experienced anything like it before and being an adrenaline junkie I’m always down for anything and everything. It almost makes me want to get my license to drive one. Nothing could have made this experience any better (maybe living in a prettier place) but, I’m glad I took the chance on it.
