Trends of Paris Fashion Week 2017
Paris Fashion Week Fall 2017 has just come to an end introducing the latest styles through runway fashion shows, street styles, and the awning Instagram FOMO pictures. The week started Tuesday, September 26, with names like Christian Dior and Saint Laurent ending Tuesday, October 3, with Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, and Chanel. Karl Lagerfeld, designer for Chanel, did not disappoint with his jungle theme capturing vibrant, green trees as well as flowing near-life-size waterfalls. Throughout the week the runway was covered with big names like Chloe, Vivienne Westwood, Celine, Valentino, Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, and more presenting next-level trends and extravagant presentations, but hey that’s the world of fashion. Saint Laurent also staged a jaw-dropping Eiffel Tower Spring show to debut his line. The presentation was really a must-see with the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower’s traditional sparkle lighting up the runway and night sky; only selfie sticks filled the audience.
The Trends
White– What’s the new black? White. Lagerfeld presented many pastels in his show with a series of short to long white and ivory dresses. He also stayed consistent, offering waterproof and transparent accessories. The tradition of pearls and the signature capped toe look of high-rise boots made the runway once again. Lace accents, wide-brimmed hats, as well as ripped denim, were introduced, because why not?
Embellished Accessories– Accessories seemed to be showing up in many of the shows throughout the fashion month. Dolce & Gabbana went for the embellished “Miss America” ruby crown that seemed to outdo any other accessory. It sported sparkling tiaras with over-the-top add-ons such as multicolored plums and playing cards. Miu Miu is accessorized with wide-rimmed sophisticated headbands that gave the outfit a vintage-friendly add-on. Finally, Dries Van Noten went for the bold rhinestone jeweled side part that many models had kept in to rock for a more street-style feel.
Bike Shorts- Yeah I said it. Bike shorts. Seem to be a famous new trend showing up in many of the shows not only in Paris Fashion Week, but also has been seen at New York Fashion Week. The Chloe Spring 2018 show debuted just-below-the-knee trousers in denim, khaki, and caramel with high-rise boots, showing no skin. Naomi Campbell as well ended the Off-White show also debuting ivory bike shorts and a blazer. People are saying Kim Kardashian is to be given credit to for this trend because of her famous summer black biking shorts paired with blazers or thin white tanks. Saint Laurent’s collection featured, what Vogue wrote, “a Kim Kardashian inspired sheer, black-lace, bike short-length catsuit.” (Bike Shorts Article) I mean who else do you know is a bigger trendsetter than Kim Kardashian, I’ll wait. Designers aren’t stopping this trend featuring it in their lineups throughout the seasons.
Creativity flowed throughout Paris Fashion Week and many trends from pastels featured in Chanel and Desi to traditional patterns by Manish Arora filled the runways. A hippie vibe started Saint Laurent’s show but quickly changed to chic styles as the show went on introducing bright, vibrant, and dark colors. Many prints, scarves, and textures filled the Dries Van Noten show and shocked the audience with its theatrical atmosphere. Rick Owens's collection was simply brilliant creativity with models wearing more objects than clothes it gets people’s attention with its elaborate sense of texture and complexity. Balmain dominated the color black this season debuting many different patterns and meshes. Paris Fashion Week Fall 2017 overall was not one to forget and designers are becoming more creative than ever before.
