2018 Grammy Recap

2018 Grammy Recap

So as we all know, or don't, the 60th Annual Grammy Awards were yesterday held in New York City at Madison Square Garden. I tried winning tickets from the local radio station by sitting by my radio for a whole day until they say the word to text. I should have remembered that I have never won anything in my life so why would I win tickets to the biggest music award show of all time? So yeah, I didn't win, but I was able to watch the red carpet and the awards at home in my pajamas which is probably just as good.

Performers: Some of the performers included Sam Smith, Kesha, Bruno Mars, P!nk, Little Big Town and the list goes on. My favorite from the night would have to be Kesha's performance. Wearing all white she brought Cyndi Lauper, Bebe Rexha, Andrea Day, Jillian Michaels, and Camila Cabello out with her to perform such a powerful and moving song "Pray." The performance was so moving people started tearing up and it allowed those white roses the celebrities wore to really have a meaning behind them for Kesha.

Styles: The red carpet was not too extravagant this year even with Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus showing up only to surprise people with the elegant sense they took to the Grammys. Miley wearing a black velvet jumpsuit and Gaga in a black lace sophisticated gown that shaped her body to the nines. Velvet was the popular choice worn by celebs like Ne-Yo in a crushed orange suit top and DJ Khaled in a dark red tux from head to toe matching with his son Asahd. Rihanna was not seen on the red carpet but won the first award of the night with Kendrick Lamar sporting a dark purple latex dress that she could only pull off. The most favored accessory of the night was of course the white rose people wore as a representation of the "Times Up" movement.

Winners: It's all about the winners and Bruno Mars was the biggest of them all. Mars won Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best R&B Song, Best R&B Album, and Best R&B Performance winning 6 Grammys this year. Best New Artist was won by Alessia Cara who made a great speech about upcoming artists and for people to support real music and real artists. Ed Sheeran won best pop vocal album, unfortunately, he was not in attendance but won as the only male nominated in the category up against artists like P!nk and Kelly Clarkson. Kendrick Lamar won Best Rap Album for 'DAMN' and also the first preference of the night starting it off with an amazing show with his political performance.

Overall the Grammys were pretty laid back this year, nothing too over the top, but I could really see how the "Time's Up" movement had an impact on people who attended. The red carpet seemed very calm, organic, and natural. The Grammys were, in my eyes, a surprise and could not have been more of a peaceful protest for the movement and a way for people who have a platform in the industry to be a voice for those who don't have one.
