That Time I Met Demi Lovato
Yeah, that girl from “Camp Rock” and “Sunny With A Chance” I met her! But, it wasn’t as exciting as it might seem. Ever since Demi Lovato’s album came out on September 29, 2017, I became obsessed. I would say I have always been a fan of Demis, but not to the point where I’d watch her shows or listen to her songs on purpose, just when they were on TV. After this album came out, I found out she was really big on mental health because she herself had a personal connection with it. I really loved how she was using her platform to really broaden people’s knowledge on this topic and her overall attitude toward helping others. So that, mixed with her voice, personality, and love for her songs I thought meeting her would be just a breath of fresh air. Walking in with high expectations; was pretty disappointing.
After telling my parents all I wanted for Christmas was a meet-and-greet pass to Demi Lovato’s concert in Minnesota, that’s what I got. No one big ever really comes to Nebraska, so hearing that she’d be driving distance away was perfect. She was going to be performing at the Target Center on March 10, 2018, which was a Saturday. So, my mom and I drove up to Minnesota for the weekend and our adventure started there.
It wasn’t the best drive, because my mom got a rock in her window that we had to get fixed there, but other than that not too bad. We arrived at our hotel the day before the concert, March 9, which was a walkable distance to the venue. The next day we explored Minnesota a little and went to Mall of America before going back to the hotel.
I think I had to be at the venue an hour or two before the concert for the meet and greet part of it. Before getting in line we received a laminated meet and greet pass and a signed poster of Demi. I waited in line by myself for about 45 minutes until the line started moving and people were finally meeting her. I met some girls who were standing next to me in line who were so excited to be meeting her too, I was more than halfway down the line when I thought it was moving fairly quickly. Alright, I’m nervous, excited and it’s my time to go in.
She was in this kind of square room blocked off by curtains so no one could see her until you entered the room. The entrance was coming in behind her then you turn right and she was right there a beautiful 5’3 woman looking straight into the camera not even taking a second to turn her head to say “hi.” So I walk up to the other side of her and say “omg hi!” And nothing. Nothing at all just a robot looking at the camera the whole time waiting for the next fan to lose $500. We take the picture and she actually turned to me to say “bye.” That was it. Not worth it.
After I got my stuff the girl that was next to me in line told me she asked for a hug but Demi said, “no.” I don’t know if she was having a bad day or what, but she wasn’t the friendliest or open to her fans which really made her who she is and where she is now. After this, I got the chance to see her again with her mom at CAST on Tour, where Demi invited special guests to speak before the concert who have struggled with mental health.
The opener was Kehlani who was amazing and so much fun to watch. You know how some celebrities don’t sound anything like they do when their songs play on the radio, well that was not the case for Demi. She sang so well and her performance, well let me just say something to see. She did amazing as I expected and it was such a fun night to experience with my mom. But, if you’re thinking about meeting Demi Lovato I wouldn’t recommend it, I know all celebrities are different so I’m not assuming all meet and greets are like this. I would definitely recommend seeing her in concert though. I wish her all the best as well right now with recovering and getting back on her feet.
